November 2006 broke the all time record for the wettest month on the Kitsap Peninsula. While the Northwest is known for rain, we actually have about the same annual rainfall as Chicago or Washington DC - somewhere around 25 inches a year.
To make things worse, right in the middle of the rain we had some record breaking cold which turned the roads to ice and covered them with snow. Driving was dangerous but mostly because of those "other" drivers. Schools closed and the snow created a wonderland we seldom see. I couldn't help but wonder about those who had recently moved to the area and had been warned about our wet weather; they must have thought this was it!
The good part - I was able to get out and take some snow pictures. Everything looks a little different with a white background and the mountains, after a record breaking dry summer, had their first real cover of snow. Everything was beautiful and set the tone for the upcoming holiday season.
