2007 Washington State Visitors' Guide

The 2007 Washington State Visitors' Guide, published by the Washington State Hotel & Lodging Association, just arrived in the office.

It was great fun looking through the 143 page publication to find my 9 pictures - most in the front editorial section. It was especially nice to find that they used a fairly large picture of my otters, which are also on the business cards I am currently using.

You'll also find one of my eagle pictures and other Kitsap and Olympic Peninsula photos. All have photo credit with my name and website.

Want a copy? Click here to view an online copy, or order your own. Now that I've given you a few hints, you can play "find Jean's pictures"!

Winter Rainbow at Point No Point

We were on a February walk at Point No Point when it started to rain. We were far down the beach so started back toward the lighthouse and the sun broke through creating a glow on the lighhouse and a rainbow across the entire beach. The vegetation in the foreground is a dense thicket of wild roses that make a wonderful contrast to the lighthouse and to the grey skies.

There is never a bad day at the beach; no matter what the weather there is something amazing, beautiful and different.

"Boating Kitsap" features KitsapImages.com Photos

The new Boating Kitsap glossy insert for Nor' Westing's Annual Resource Guide, and the website, BoatingKitsap.com feature photos from KitsapImages.com.

With our new boat (see post below) it is going to be a fun year working to gather great photos for this project again next year. I'll have a whole new perspective being able to take pictures from the water and showing the "boater's view" of the various ports.

We are looking forward to putting Boating Kitsap to good use as a guide as we explore the Kitsap Peninsula from the water.

Software enhanced photos

My main focus or intent with photography is to capture the best photo I can and make only minor tweaks to lighting or color if necessary. Most of my photos are very straight forward in this way but . . .

Recently I have been playing a bit more with software and applying filters and effects to enhance some of my photos. I have to admit it can be fun and addictive. Some photos just seem to lend themselves to transformation to a painting or the addition of some extra color or . . . it is limitless.

To give me a place to show some of my experiments without diluting my other galleries I have added a folder on my site for "Enhanced Photos". There are currently two galleries in the folder but I am sure I will add more over time.

Winter boating on Puget Sound

We're back on the water!

We've been out of boating for quite a while and buying a boat in the winter meant we had to wait for a good day to take it out for the first time. Our day came in January showing that Puget Sound is truly a year 'round boating location.

It was a clear crisp day and our first launch was perfect as was the day but the best part was getting a renewed perspective on our area. I got some shots of eagles and other birds and had the opportunity to line up and get some great shots of other boats. The boat above is one we saw just outside Kingston with the Cascade Mountains in the background.

With the launch of BoatingKitsap.com and the new once-a-year Boating Kitsap Nor'Westing insert I have motivation to get some great boat pictures.

I'm most looking forward to a new way to explore the area and the opportunities for wildlife photos.
