NEW Blog on the Seattle PI website

My new blog on the Seattle PI website has launched.

The new blog will be about things to see and do on Kitsap and include photos, while this blog will focus primarily on photos; where taken, what time of day, etc. There will be overlap but I will work to keep the two separate and different.

Lavender on the Kitsap Peninsula

July is lavender month and the new Kitsap Lavender Growers group are putting on mini Lavender Markets at three different Farmers Markets during the month of July.
Check out http://www.lavenderkitsap.com/ for the details but they will be selling only genuine Kitsap lavender and lavender products.
Also thought I would mention that starting next week I will be doing a "Kitsap and Beyond" blog for the Seattle PI Newspaper. It will have many of the same sort of items that have been in this blog but I will start to keep this blog more about the photos and the Seattle PI blog about things going on, where to go and what to do on Kitsap. I will always have photos with that blog as well and there will be some overlap but they will have a different focus.

A day of birds

Today I made a trip to Seabeck to see what is going on there and check out the eagles at Big Beef Creek.

My friend Marcia who owns Morgan Hill Retreat, and is very good at spontaneous outings, went with me. Big Beef Creek was not a disappointment - there were at least 12 Bald Eagles immediately visible but we didn't take the time to walk out onto the tidelands were we could have gotten some great photos.

Instead we headed to Barbies Seabeck Bay Cafe for yet another great lunch - I have never been disappointed and have taken travel writers there because I know it will be a good experience.

I got a good picture of one of the eagles perched on the old marina building but the fun surprise was finding a row of Purple Martin houses put up by Kitsap Audubon and the parents and newly fledged Purple Martins flying around. This newly fledged Purple Martin posed perfectly for this picture.

Dropping Marcia off at Morgan Hill Retreat we saw the baby Swallows had fledged and this sweet baby let me get close enough to get this picture.
Always a good day when I get pictures of birds!
