Calling Kayakers - NEW - Paddle Kitsap 2008

There is a new event coming to Kitsap this summer.

Paddle Kitsap is the brainchild of John Kuntz, owner of Olympic Outdoor Center in Poulsbo, but the event is quickly catching on and gathering support from individuals. companies and communities.

When John first talked to me about his kayak event idea he was thinking of a paddle from Belfair, around the entire peninsula, to Allyn. While this longer paddle is still a possibility down the road the 2008 Kitsap Paddle will launch in Port Gamble and the first day will end in Kingston. Day two, will be a little shorter and will go from Kingston to Poulsbo with final night celebrations in Poulsbo.

Participants can choose to paddle the entire 2 day route or they can join in on the second day and make it a one day paddle. The dates are August 1 and 2, 2008.

Not all the plans are finalized and the various communities are being asked to join in and help support the event which could become a signature event for the North Kitsap area.

Kitsap Paddle is planned to accommodate paddlers of various abilities. The two day paddle may be better suited to strong paddles, and day 2 alone will be good for most levels, including families.

The official Press Release has not come out yet, and I will post it here when it does, but in the meantime if you are interested you might want to start making your reservations, especially for lodging.

Some camping will be made available, but hotel, motel and B&B options fill up quickly in the summer. Click here for a list of lodging options in North Kitsap.

Consider bringing the whole family, even if only one person is participating, it is a great time to enjoy Kitsap! For more on the area: http://www.visitkitsap.com/.
