Squirrel in love with my feeder

This little guy LOVES our new bird feeder.

My mother gave me this feeder because it wasn't working out for her. I put it up and this squirrel, a regular visitor to the feeders showed up and wouldn't leave.

I walked right up to him and actually had to back away to get the picture because of the lens I had on the camera.

At times he wrapped his front legs around the feeder and seemed to be staking a claim that this was his, and his only.

Beaver Valley Buffalo

When we drive to Port Townsend we tend to take the back roads on the way up but usually take the main roads home, partly to drive through Beaver Valley and check out the Buffalo.
Still too early for any new babies, but always fun to stop and visit.

Early Spring Drive Along Liberty Bay

My new drive to the office is longer now that we have moved the offices from Port Gamble to Silverdale.

We're more centrally located and some of the increased driving will be mitigated by working at home a couple days a week.

The commute has gone from 10 miles each way to about 17, but is potentially even longer because of my aversion to highways and the temptation to drive down through Lomolo, along Liberty Bay and through Poulsbo.
My detour was rewarded yesterday when the Olympics came out with their new coating of snow and the overcast skies created wonderfully reflective waters.
I now have several detour options coming and going from the office as well as working closer to the south part of the Peninsula where I will be able to spend more time.

Road Trip!

I've been working on our road trip to Jim's 50th high school reunion and this is the basic plan.
Part One: Hwy 2 across the top of the country. We've done a lot of cross country driving over the years but have only covered the Washington part of HWY 2. This time we'll go the full length of the western segment, going out of our way to start in Everett so we don't miss one mile of this amazing route.
Part Two: We'll drop down through Michigan, hugging the coast as much as possible, visiting relatives and friends on our way to Indiana and Jim's reunion, plus some of his friends and relatives in that area.
Part Three: We will wander our way home staying off Interstates, seeking out scenic byways, and taking some amazing photos along the entire trip!
I am starting to get excited. We have a house sitter lined up; someone to take care of the yard and garden; and a wonderful sister and brother-in-law to check in and oversee Sunrise Acre while we're gone.

Sharing a treasure

Sharing a treasure on the beach - definitely a fairy crystal!

What is out of place in these pictures?

Looking at each of these pictures something is out of place.

Above: It's March! These girls are looking for fairy crystals; those left by the Crystal Fairy each night. I loved the colorful towels and it was a beautiful day, but it is still March, early March and even for most of us on Kitsap, a little early for beach attire and bare feet.

Pretty picture, but look again. A Washington State Ferry with Mount Baker in the background.

Not an unheard of view, but not a daily ferry run. Below you add in the Point No Point Lighthouse and it makes sense. The ferry must be moving from one route to another or going in for service or . . practicing for the Port Townsend to Edmonds run during the 4-6 weeks the Hood Canal Bridge will be closed starting May 1, 2009.

Winter Break

Does it rain all winter around Puget Sound? Not as much as some think. We get a lot of rain, although we're a bit behind this year. We also get sunny, balmy days in February with the mountains "out" - a local expression for those times we can see the mountains.

Sunshine, mountains, a beach walk and dogs - it can't help but lift your spirits and yes, it is February on Puget Sound.

These are all the same day, as the picture of Abby in the last post, below.

Abby and another stick

Just another picture of Abby at the beach with a stick. I can never resist taking pictures of my wild one.
