I hafta say, running your own business is no picnic and is not for everyone... there are lots of reasons why the government wants you off their casebooks - self-employed people can't get disability insurance, often can't get health insurance, taxes are a mess, and also you really can't make SSI contributions the same way so your Social Security down the road is much weaker - I hove the gov isn't shucking people off into the "start your own business" path for their own sake. It's really, really hard to pull off successfully at any age, in any economy! I think you know what you are doing and have probably been self-employed before, but for others reading this - look out!! Do the homework - start at the library reading everything on their shelves about small-biz startup, marketing, taxes, healthcare, etc before taking the plunge into self-employment. Also, God forbid you should plan on hiring anyone when you do get your business off the ground - it's not a good idea and will surely ruin any profits you might earn.
